About Me
I'm Rachel Acton, founder of Nova Dog Training and a certified IMDT trainer. Based in Petts Wood, SE London, Kent. I help busy families build better relationships with their dogs through practical training that fits real life.
My journey into dog training started in 2018 when I brought home Megan, my Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. I've always been dog obsessed and grew up with dogs - but going back to the puppy stage alongside a demanding career in Finance was still a shock to the system. The hours spent working with Megan, tackling setbacks, followed by eventual breakthroughs sparked something in me and led me to start formal training with the IMDT in 2019.
Fast-forward to today and I'm also a mum to two young daughters. This has brought a whole new perspective to my training approach. From introducing newborns into a home with a dog, to navigating the chaos of the toddler years - I'm not afraid to admit it's been tough at times. These personal experiences have shaped how I approach dog training for families.
I left my job and launched Nova Dog Training with the goal of bridging the gap between professional training advice and the realities of busy family life.
Whether you're struggling with a new puppy, managing big emotions (yours or the dog's!) or simply trying to squeeze training into your packed schedule - I've been there, and I'd love to help you create a happier home for both your family and your dog.
My Training Approach
As an IMDT-qualified trainer, I focus on force-free, science-based methods that prioritise positive reinforcement and your dog’s wellbeing.
I believe effective training should:
-
Be judgement-free - every dog and family is unique
-
Include the whole family - consistency and getting everyone onboard sets you up for success
-
Adapt to your lifestyle - training should fit around your schedule, not the other way around
-
Focus on high-impact techniques – using proven methods to get meaningful results, even when training time is limited.
I offer flexible options including home visits, remote consultations, and ongoing WhatsApp support so that you have guidance whenever you need it. Click here for more on how I can support you.
Megan, my ever-enthusiastic Toller, often likes to reminds me that training is an ongoing journey - and it's one I'm passionate about helping you navigate with confidence.
